Slasher Studios Is Running an IndieGoGo Campaign for Post Production of Don't Go To The Reunion

Slasher Studios, Kevin Sommerfield and Steve Goltz, are in the post production stages of their first feature film: Don't Go To The Reunion.  With filming wrapped on May the 3rd (even a day early) they are now running their second crowd funding campaign so that they can get this slasher homage submitted to film festivals all over the country.  Loaded with some "killer" perk packages and even the chance to obtain a copy of the script signed by Slasher Studios.  This writer knows first hand that this film is going to kick some serious ASS!  So be sure to check it out when it is released in October of 2013.  You may even recognize one of the actors (wink wink).

Horror Hottie of the Month May 2013

This month we are going to take a look at Christine Elise noteably from Child's Play 2.  Actually this is really the only horror related film she has really done but since I am a HUGE fan of Child's Play 2 she is May's Horror Hottie.  One perk of running your own website, HA!

Most of Christine's resume consists of television having appeared on 21 Jump Street, Law and Order SVU and who can forget her as the loveable psycho Emily Valentine on Beverly Hills 90210.  Since I watch Child's Play 2 on a Yearly basis and probably more than once a year that is the role I will always remember.
She played the foster sister of Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) who at first thinks he is just a child with a few problems.  Then she see's the people around her dropping off and comes face to face, so to speak, with the killer Good Guy Doll Chucky.  Child's Play 2 is so memorable because of the finale.  One of the longest and best finales in a 90's slasher.  I may get a few nay sayers that would say Scream is the best 90's slasher but not for me.  While I like scream alot, I prefer watching this classic with Christine Elise.

R I P Richard Brooker: You will be Missed

1954-2013

Today horror fans around the world have gotten word about the passing of an icon in the horror industry, Richard Booker.  The first person to put on the hockey mask that would forever change pop culture as we know it.  The outpouring of fans sending their condolences on his facebook page is amazing.  I was looking on his page and kept moving down, down and down further and realized I was looking at posts from just 16 minutes ago.  Over the weekend Richard posted on his facebook that his was ill and not feeling well.  I never did have the pleasure of meeting who I consider to be my favorite Jason and my condolences go out to his friends and family.

Friday the 13th Part 3 has always held a soft spot in my heart.  Richard protrayed such a tall and intimidating Jason.
I would have liked to have asked him what it meant to him to be the one to wear the mask first.  I think I speak for all Friday and horror fans in general when I say, "you will be missed sir".

Horror Hottie of the Month - April 2013

While March was absent from having a horror hottie.  This month's selection makes up for it, Betsy Russell.  Betsy is most well known for her role in the Saw franchise as Jigsaw's wife, Jill.  But before Saw she was no stranger to the horror genre having the lead roll in 1988's Cheerleader Camp.  One of my personal favorite slasher's that as been reviewed on this site.  Betsy will forever steal whatever scene she is in whether it be horror or any other genre.

I am not really a huge fan of the Saw franchise but since I have already reviewed Cheerleader Camp I guess it will have to do.  Betsy played one of my favorite roles in the franchise mainly because you really did not know what she was going to do next.
Was she good, was she bad, whatever she was I was into it.  Having the all important role of Jigsaw's wife who left him after he discovers that he has cancer.  At least I think that is what happened it's been so long since I watched a Saw movie that I really don't remember.  I hope in the future we can see her in some more horror films that do not have Saw in the title.

Pit-of-Horror's Top 5 Scream Queens

I currently read an article depicting the top 15 scream queens from a reputable horror website.  I realize everyone has their own opinion, but you can put women on the list that make no sense what so ever.  The part of the list specifically that was most questionable was the top 5.  So here is my top 5 scream queens of all time.  Agree/Disagree at least it's all horror.

5) Danielle Harris
No stranger to horror flicks, in fact she has probably starred in more horror than some other scream queens combined.  Her biggest horror ventures were her parts in Halloween 4 and 5, then Rob Zombie's pair of Halloween reimaginings.

4) Linnea Quigley
You really can't have a scream queen list and not mention Linnea Quigley.  Her part in the slasher craze of the 80's was instrumental.  When there was a role that called for a hot topless woman to scream, in came Linnea.

3) Heather Lagenkamp
Heather will always be one of my favorites.  She was in the first horror movie I ever saw Nightmare on Elm St 3, and she was also one of my first crush's.  She will always be remembered in the horror genre as Nancy Thompson.  "Screw Sleep!"

2) Tracy Griffith
Not someone you would probably expect to see but she could have been more of a scream queen than the 2 movies she starred in, Sleepaway Camp 3, and The First Power.  She really did not stick around too long in the genre but I think she did a stand out job.  Yes, she is the half sister of Melanie Griffith

1) Lar Park Lincoln
Her performance as the final girl in Friday the 13th Part 7 is enough to get her the #1 on this list.  Her role of Tina was one of the best in the whole series.  Not only is she my favorite in the Friday series but she is my favorite of all time.

Underrated Movies - Cheerleader Camp 1988

One movie I really can never get tired of watching, Cheerleader Camp.  The acting is terrible, and too many of the kills are committed off screen  but I love this movie.  One of those late 80's slasher's that will always be a lot of fun to watch.  Not to mention it stars a very young Betsy Russell and Leif Garrett.  I am not really a fan of the latter, he is kind of a douchebag.  You really can't go wrong with the concept of Cheerleaders and horror.

Allison (Betsy Russell) is tormented by nightmares of people being killed and her friends turning on her.  When people at the camp start disappearing and showing up dead she starts to believe that she has something to do with it.  Her boyfriend Brent (Leif Garrett) is anything but faithful which drives her further into her own insanity.  There are plenty of suspects floating around camp.  A slasher who done it. Is Allison committing all of these horrifying murders, or is it someone else?

Now I have to admit I really was not very impressed with this movie at the first watching, but the more you watch it the more it really grows one you.  The corny acting and just plain cheeziness of the film will make you want to watch this again and again. This is also one of the many films that journeyman and genre actor Buck Fowler has a role in.  Who doesn't like them some Buck!  Did I mention there is a fair amount of gratuitous nudity?  Definitely recommended for a viewing if you are a slasher fan.  Kind of hard to find though.  I think you may be able to find it on Amazon for a decent price.

Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: Happy 26th

Twenty six years ago today Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors was released theatrically.  After the direction that part 2 went in no one knew what to expect, but in fact in my opinion New Line had released the best Nightmare sequel in the series.  Not to mention this was the big screen debut of one Patricia Arquette and who could forget the kickass 80's soundtrack featuring Dokken.

For me this was the movie that got me hooked on slasher flicks.  I know I know, it wasn't until 1987 that I really started to like horror movies, but I was only 7 years old.  I can remember the countless times I rented this movie and watched it.  Each rental consisted of multiple viewings to say the least.  Freddy was the man, and from there I discovered the Friday the 13th movies, Halloween and so forth.  Wes Craven, Pit-of-Horror salutes you for making horror history.  Everyone party like its 1987! "Welcome to prime time BITCH!"
